Well, to be honest...I thought it was perfectly fine. He's behind her, embracing her...and then she twists around to face him and hits him in the chest. He steps back.

Is that not what happened?

Hahahaha.
I must admit, I caught it the first time around, but seriously, we don't see this kind of stuff in our own writing. I had a very astute beta reader catch that the body armor a character was wearing stopped a sword, but not a little knife five minutes later.*rolls eyes* I could not believe I missed that.
So do you have a publication date yet? Month? Year? Something? I'm drowning here!:)

Maprilynne

Wait-wait-wait-wait--they are Doing It in that scene, or they're just embracing (or almost embracing, as it says)? I didn't think they were Doing It; I thought they were post-coitally nuzzling, upright. The "almost an embrace" part makes it sound as if they're facing each other, though, so I wasn't thrown off by her shoving against his chest, more by her twisting around to do so.

To me this is more of an interesting study in how we're much more embarrassed by our own gaffes than derisive of others'! That's just not even a big deal to me that you wrote that--I make far worse mistakes than that in both rough and "final" drafts (is there such a thing as a final draft? really?).
