But more importantly, I&#8217;m a pretty fast cook.  His Hawtness once jokingly said that I get only half credit for cooking since I do only the simplest dishes.<\/p>\n<p>And then one day I said to myself, you know, these dishes are pretty simple but they hold up pretty well.  I&#8217;ll bet there are other readers\/writers out there who wouldn&#8217;t mind a few of those recipes&#8211;more time for reading\/writing, right?<\/p>\n<p>Except, well, our inaugural recipe is really simple but it isn&#8217;t exactly fast&#8211;not to mention it is also highly calorific.\u00a0 So I held onto it for a long time until I had a book signing recently.  And used it to lure folks to my table.  I can&#8217;t speak to its success as a promotional product for my <em>books<\/em>, but one teenage boy came around five separate times for the cake pops. Ha!<\/p>\n<p>The original recipe can be found at food blogger <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bakerella.com\/red-velvet-cake-balls\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bakerella&#8217;s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what you need:\u00a0<a rel=\"attachment wp-att-747\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sherrythomas.com\/blog\/2010\/05\/25\/inaugural-recipe-post-cake-pops\/cimg0342\/\" class=\"broken_link\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-747\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sherrythomas.com\/blog\/2010\/05\/25\/inaugural-recipe-post-cake-pops\/cimg0342\/\" class=\"broken_link\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-747\" title=\"CIMG0342\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sherrythomas.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/CIMG0342-e1274796643328-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sherrythomas.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/CIMG0342-e1274796643328-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.sherrythomas.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/CIMG0342-e1274796643328-450x600.jpg 450w, https:\/\/www.sherrythomas.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/CIMG0342-e1274796643328.jpg 1728w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ingredients:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>One box Red Velvet Cake Mix plus the oil, eggs, and whatnot to bake it with<\/li>\n<li>One 16oz can cream cheese frosting<\/li>\n<li>Chocolate bark\/coating<\/li>\n<li>White chocolate chips (I used Nestle because it has directions on the back for how to make dipping chocolate)<\/li>\n<li>Vegetable shortening to combine with the white chocolate chips during metling (not pictured)<\/li>\n<li>Popsicle sticks (not pictured)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Steps:<\/p>\n<p>1. Bake the cake according to directions.\u00a0 Let it cool completely.<\/p>\n<p>2. Form the cake crumb frosting mixture into popsicle-size balls.
